A 17 year old boy appeared in court in Mallow charged with multiple motoring offences following a two car crash earlier this year on the M8 motorway near Mitchelstown

The juvenile, who can’t be named due to his age, was charged with 12 motoring offences including one which related to the death of 16 year old Johnny Foley from Spur Hill in Cork..

The youth was arrested this morning at around 8am and charged with the offences relating to the incidents that happened in the early hours of July 1st.

Det Garda John Murphy gave evidence of arrest charge and caution and said the teenager made no reply when the charged were put to him.

The court heard that the DPP had directed trial by indictment on the dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious harm and endangerment charges

The DPP has also consented to the accused going forward on a signed plea of guilty on these charges.

Judge Colm Roberts granted free legal aid and remanded the teenager in detention at Oberstown Children’s Detention Campus to appear again at Mallow District Court via video link on November 14th
