200 families in Cork were supported out of homelessness by Focus Ireland last year.
In its annual report published today, the homeless charity says it supported 18 thousand people in 2023 - a 12 per cent increase on the year before.
Latest government figures show 553 people accessed emergency accommodation in Cork last month
Pat Dennigan, CEO Focus Ireland says more than 650 households were saved from entering homelessness by the charity last year:
"If you're falling into that trap, or if there's warning signs related to your tenancy, particularly in the private rented sector, we urge people to come to us. We encourage people to come to us, and we can try and deal with that. Maybe it's to do with your entitlements, maybe it's to do with your responsibilities as a tenant, but there are many ways within that that we can navigate someone into a safer place within the private rented tenancies"
