The charity says calls for help with school costs are up 10% compared to the previous year
SVP says the level of demand underlines the need for much greater investment in the education system to ensure that all children and young people can access and participate in education on an equal footing.
The charity says many of the calls received relate to requests for financial help with parental contributions, schoolbooks, digital equipment, and help with the cost of school uniforms.
Speaking to RedFM News Marcella Stakem of SVP says the pressure is coming at a time when many families are struggling with rising utility costs:
"Last week alone we received 300 calls a day from parents and for us that really underlines the need for much greater investment in the education system. The under investment in education leads to a feeling of stress and anxious feelings for parents that are not able to afford the back to school costs but also for children themselves and young people."
