An 8 year old girl has died following an assault in Co. Wexford.
It happened at a home in New Ross shortly before midnight last night.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene on Lower William Street in New Ross at around 11:45 last night.
The young girl was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.
She died from her injuries in the early hours of this morning.
A woman and man, aged in their 30s, are being treated in hospital for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Gardaí say they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the young girl's death.
The scene has been preserved for a technical exam, and the coroner has been notified.
An incident room has been set up at New Ross Garda Station, and Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information, to come forward.
