People Before Profit to add February 1st, the last weekend in September and the last weekend in November to the number of bank holidays already in Ireland.

The new bill will be brought to the Dáil in September.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy says it would thank frontline and essential workers for their efforts during the pandemic:

"There was talk of the government recognising the sacrifice, with an additional bank holiday in September, and then that idea was quickly sketched by Neil Martin who said no they hadn't been considering us at whatsoever. Whereas we think it's absolutely necessary to recognise the sacrifice on the work of all the frontline workers through Covid and in general."
