An Afghan man who lives and runs a business in Cork says he wants to bring his family to Ireland from Afghanistan after they were almost killed by a bomb blast at the weekend.
Bilal Jalil says up to 18 of his family and friends died in the explosion, while his mother, brother and cousin were gravely injured and are being treated in hospital.
Afghanistan has been over-run by Taliban forces in a matter of days, taking the international community by surprise and forcing the Afghan president to flee the capital Kabul.
The world was shocked by footage of thousands of people trying to escape the country by holding onto the outside of US military aircraft in recent days.
Speaking to RedFM News, Bilal says he is very keen to help his family in any way he can.
"Yesterday I spoke to Doras in Limerick, which is a refugee centre, and I requested for any option, any scheme available to bring my family and for the rest of the Afghans living in Ireland to bring their families, to save a life.
"Financially they don't have a problem, just security wise they have a problem."
