The Agriculture Minister is defending the Government’s new rural housing guidelines which have been delayed until November.
Planners says they don’t know how to proceed as a result.
There’s confusion over whether ‘locals only’ restrictions will be tightened or changed.
Minister Charlie McConalogue says they have to strike the right balance.
"There's update rules on housing policy, and planning guieddlienes being developed at the moment which are due by the end of this year.
"They will continue to facilitate people in terms of being able to build in rural Ireland.
"What's important in doing that is that we have an appropriate balance, and that we don't see around towns and cities that urban sprawl and urban type development entering rural areas."
