The Agriculture Minister says there's no going back to Europe to argue against changes to nitrates derogation limits.
Charlie McConalogue has been facing questions from the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee today.
His party colleague, Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill, is among those opposed to the changes.
However, Green Party TD for Wicklow, Steven Matthews has backed the minister's messaging on the matter:
"I fully understand the shock and the disappointment and anger amongst the farming community, that I engage with as well. How did this happen? And why did this happen? And why is it happening now? I want to thank Minister McConalogue; I think you've been very straight in your answering. I think you've been very honest and open in setting out exactly why this is happening, and not leading people on a sort of merry dance that we'd be able to get around this".
