The Agriculture Minister is reassuring consumers there shouldn't be a problem with turkeys this Christmas.
It comes as poultry owners have been issued with an order to house their flocks from next Monday, to prevent the spread of avian flu.
Earlier this week a case of the bird flu was confirmed, after swan was discovered dead in Co Cavan.
Charlie McConalogue says the introduction of a housing order is a precautionary measure.
"They key objective is to ensure we keep all of our flocks and our commercial flocks, and obviously very important in the next couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas is our turkey flocks.
"With Christmas being the peak of the year, it's really important for families across the country and very important for farmers as well in relation to the income that derives from that.
"That's why we have moved now to put the housing order in effect form next Monday, it's the earliest we've ever put the housing order in place."
