Almost 21,000 homes and businesses in East Cork are under a boil water notice this morning.
The notice from Uisce Eireann began at midnight and comes about because of a dispute between trade union Unite and seven local authorities.
The notice affects customers of the Glashaboy Public Water Treatment Plant, in Glanmire, Glounthaune, Little Island, Carrigtwohill, parts of Midleton - and the surrounding areas, but not Cobh.
Water must be boiled for drinking, prepartion of salads and similar foods which are not cooked prior to eating, brushing teeth and making ice.
Customers can check if their property is affected by visiting the Water Quality section of water.ie and entering their property's Eircode - or by calling Uisce Eireann's 24/7 customer careline on 1800 278 278.
There may also be some disruption to water services, in particular, the speed at which bursts in the water network are repaired.
