The Mandate Trade Union says it will engage intensively to get the best deal possible for workers being made redundant at Argos.
The union expressing its 'dissapointment' at Argos's decision to close all of its Irish stores.
The company has two outlets in Cork at Mahon Retail Park and Blackpool.
There has been no official statement released as yet on the closures from Argos.
It's believed the closures will result in over 400 job losses across around 30 stores.
Michael Meegan from the Mandate Trade Union says staff were informed this morning.
"All staff have been informed this morning that the Argos business in the Republic of Ireland will be ceasing training in June of this year.
"Over 400 jobs will be impacted."
Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien says it will be a hard day for staff receiving the news today.
"It's very tough for any person to lose their job or to hear news like that, I certainly know that our Department of Enterprise and Minister Coveney will be actively involved in that space.
"The one thing for people receiving bad news like that is thankfully the jobs market in Ireland is very strong."
