Assaults, drug detections and reports of sex crimes rise in Cork

There's been a rise in the reporting of sex crimes, more assaults and more drug detections in Cork since the easing of Covid restrictions and the reopening of society.

The Cork city and county joint policing committee has heard a lot of these crimes have increased in the first 10 months of the year compared to the same period in 2020.

The Irish Examiner today says the number of rapes reported in the city rose from 27 to 41 and non aggravated sexual assault from 76 to 81 during the comparable time frames.

While serious assaults in the city jumped from 165 to 183 wih public order offences also increasing with the reopening of night life in Cork.
