Athletics track being considered for west Cork

A modern athletics track in being considered for West Cork.

Despite producing some of the most talented athletes in Ireland including Phil Healy , Diarmuid O'Connor and Fiona Harrington West Cork has no atheltics track.

Bandon Athletics Club only has a grass running track and no proper infield facilites and they now have plans to create a state of the art track and field facility.

Speaking to RedFM TD news Fianna Fail TD for the region Christopher O'Sullivan said he has raised the issue in the Dail.

"West Cork doesn't have a dedicated athletics track, and that's despite west Cork, and Bandon Athletics Club in particular, producing some fo the finest athletes both national and international.

"They've had this success with just a grass track.

"I raised this issue last week in the Dáil with Taoiseach Micheál Martin, and he did say that the Government would actively explore supporting and funding an athletics track in west Cork and particularly in Bandon."
