Locals in Blackpool believe one of the man reasons the area is being hit by flooding is due to the drains not being properly maintained
Blackpool Regeneration Committee is calling on the City Council to clear gullies more regularly and not just before weather warnings.
Heavy rainfall during the Status Orange rain warning at the weekend led to spot flooding as the water pooled in Blackpool Village
Speaking to RedFM News, Denis Fitzpatrick from the Blackpool Regeneration Committee says it's vital that drains are cleared to avoid flooding:
"The gullies are not being maintained in the area. They're not being cleaned out regularly enough, and we're calling that the Council would look again at reinstating that work back to the street cleaners- they used to do it years ago. It alleviated an awful lot of the problem areas and helped to mitigate the flooding."
