Blocking people from seeking refuge in Ireland, is not going to resolve the critical lack of accommodation and public services in local communities.
That's according to Doras CEO John Lannon, who believes the immigration issue is distracting people from bigger problems in housing, health and education.
It comes after a Red C poll found 66% of people think Ireland has taken in too many refugees.
Mr Lannon says people need to dig a little deeper
"It's easy to construct a poll that points to immigration as the big issue that people are worried about, but the questions we should focus on as we approach European and local elections are how do we provide accommodation for everyone on the island, how do we improve our health services, how do we ensure that schools have the right resources they need".
