A number of businesses in Cork have been hit by a "change scam" - with one business losing almost €1,000.
The Echo report that the scam involves a person approaching a shop to ask for 50 euro notes to be changed into 20s or vice versa, but then slipping some notes off the bunch they've received, telling the cashier they've changed their mind and asking for their original notes back.
The issue usually only comes to light at the end of the day when the business is cashing up.
Businesses have been urged to put parameters in place when it comes to the changing of money for customers.
