The Department of Justice is being called on to review the case of a man living at the Direct Provision Centre on the Kinsale Road who is staging a hunger strike outside Leinster House after his case for asylum was rejected.
Asylum Seekers Ireland say they're hopeful that today's action by Nadim Hussain will shine the spotlight on his case and force the Justice Department to re-examine his case.
Nadim Hussain, who has worked in restaurants and as hospital security says his asylum case was rejected by the Department of Justice, despite providing it with evidence of the danger he would be in if he had to return to his native country of India.
Nadim has travelled to Dublin to stage the hunger strike saying he would rather die here in Ireland than be deported to India.
Speaking to RedFM News Roos Demol from the Movement of Asylum Seekers Ireland says he's hopeful that his case will be reviewed.
"What it will do is definitely get some attention, and hopefully somebody can a petition or whatever, and there will be some kind of solution to his case.
"What we hope is that the Minister of Justice will review his case and listen to him again - it wouldn't be the first time that something like this has happened."
