The Pandemic Unemployment Payment for those in the live events sector needs to be extended by six months, according to an industry group.

The rate of PUP is due to be cut from the 7th of September with it being phased out entirely by February.

But the Music and Entertainment Association of Ireland has warned financial supports will need to be kept while they're unable to make a living.

Matt McGranaghan from the group says they need clarity from Minister Catherine Martin at a stakeholder forum tomorrow.

"A large percentage of people may not be able to return to work in any meaningful way that would ensure weekly employment opportunities, and that's the biggest issue here.

"The reopening roadmap needs to coincide with supports, and these supports are going to have to last for six months at least for a proper reopening strategy to happen."
