A protest is set to take place today demanding the government outline measures for the reopening of indoor performing arts classes.
The Performing Arts Educators of Ireland who represent teachers of dance, drama and music say the industry has been completely neglected by the state for the last seventeen months.
The group, including school owners, teachers, pupils and parents, will gather outside the Opera House in Cork and Dublin's Leinster House at 11 o'clock this morning to appeal to the government to take immediate action.
Speaking to RedFM News, Trevor Ryan of the Montfort College of Performing Arts, who is coordinating the Cork event says the sector has no idea if they can open in September or not.
"We feel that we have been completely neglected over the last 17 months. We have been trying to get an audience or a dialogue with the government for the last 17 months to no avail.
"We've been looking for a road map, we've been looking at how we can open safely, but again, we've had no guidance whatsoever. Again, we feel the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
"So we're really, you know, between a rock and a hard place. We have no road map. We have no idea whether we can open or not in September.
"We're looking for some clarity from the government on that."
