There's a call on the Transport Minister to consider implementing Uber outside cities in rural Ireland.
Fine Gael Senator Garret Ahearn says Eamon Ryan needs to offer viable taxi and hackney options outside urban cities.
He says people in towns and villages across the country have been curtailed in socialising due to a lack of decent transport.
Senator Ahearn says they need to be able to get home:
"I think there are new options available that I think the government and the Minister for Transport should be seriously looking at. And that's Uber. I think most families would have had conversations over the Christmas period about meeting up with friends, going on a work night out, even a family dinner. And if they're going to a rural town, in somewhere like where I live in Tipperary, the conversation always leads to 'Well, how are we going to get home?"
