An Ireland South MEP Candidate is calling for alcohol interlocks to be put on the cars of repeat drink and drug drivers.
The mouthpiece would prevent the car from starting if drugs or alcohol are present.
In Cork City.. Garda intoxication testing checkpoints were down 15% and Garda breath tests were down 12% between 2022 and 2023.
Speaking to RedFM News, Ireland South MEP Candidate Cynthia Ní Mhurchú says Alcohol Interlocks could significantly reduce road deaths:
"Alcohol interlocks are vital. They have worked throughout Europe, but they're a vital component in dealing with the huge number of road deaths in Ireland, which may come across as a statistic but behind all of those numbers there are people and families and communities that are left devastated in every county in the country."
