A Cork activist says a suspected arson attack on a hotel due to house 70 asylum seekers will strengthen the country’s support for those fleeing other countries.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after the former Ross Lake House in Rosscahill in county Galway burned down on Saturday night.

It’s the latest of several fires at accommodation centres chosen to house asylum seekers.

Speaking to RedFM News, spokesman for Anti-Deportation Ireland Joe Moore says the actions of the few do not represent the majority of the country:

"They're our neighbours, they're working with us, the kids are going to school together and there's no issue whatsoever- as it should be. It only strengthens the country. Culture, if it remains dormant, will die. People from different cultures will only add to our culture here. We've already seen people from African background that are fluent Irish speakers and singers."
