Members of Cork City Council have backed calls for the abolition of Uisce Eireann over it's failure to resolve the brown water saga
Reports of dirty, brown water across the city have been circulating for the last number of months with Uisce Eireann assuring the public they are working on the issue
The company initially blamed a chemical treatment regime and more recently blamed a change in the pumping regime for dislodging deposits in old pipes
Householders have been highlighting how they've been forced to replace appliances while a woman in Mayfield revealed how her baby developed a skin rash after being washed in what she described as "rusty sludge"
Workers Party Ted Tynan who tabled the abolition motion at Council told RedFM News that the young mother was left distraught
"She took the baby to her GP in Glanmire and his assessment was that the baby had come in contact with a toxic material. So obviously whatever had come out of the tap, had burned the baby's skin resulting in a rash. She then administered ointment prescribed to her by the doctor"
