The City Council has granted planning permission for a temporary bus depot for 150 buses and nearly 400 drivers.
The key element of the rollout of BusConnects Cork will be built on the former Tata Steel site in the Tivoli docklands, at an expected cost of up to 8 million euro.
Bus Éireann's existing depot at Capwell is already over-capacity so can't accommodate the additional buses required for BusConnects.
From 2025, Capwell will be used by the new electric fleet, while the diesel fleet will be based out of Tivoli.
