City traders have expressed their concern as over 700 properties are vacant or derelict.
Of the 705 properties, 390 are being investigated or have been confirmed as derelict.
162 buildings in the city have been placed on the derelict sites register which is up by almost 50% since the beginning of last year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Tim Mulcahy of The Chicken Inn says all units in the city should be full:
"People don't want to come into a city and see empty or derelict units so that would affect footfall to a certain extent, I mean full units in the city is paramount for the success of the city."
