Clean up works are continuing following Storm Ashley.

A status yellow wind warning was in place until midnight, with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour reported in Cork.

The ESB worked to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses that lost power yesterday, however as of this morning the vast majority of those customers have had their power restored.

Outages though remain in Kanturk, Bandon and Timoleague, with crews back to work at first light.

A number of flights due to land at Cork airport were diverted to Shannon Airport, however flights are now back on schedule.

Cork City Council Director of Operations, David Joyce meanwhile says Cork city wasn't flooded, but winds did down trees.

"There was no specific river of fluvial flooding yesterday in the city.

"However we did experiences extremely heavy and strong winds sustained across the entire day of Sunday, from midnight Saturday to midnight last night, and that has had an impact across the city.

"There are approximately 10-15 trees down across the city, we may find more as we go out across the network today."

Social Protection Minister, Heather Humphreys says assistance is available to homes hit by Storm Ashley.

She says says the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected.

It will help people who are unable to meet costs for essential needs, household items and structural repairs.
