The Mayor of Waterford John O'Leary says the closure of Cartamundi is a 'devastating blow'.
234 jobs will be lost at a the board game manufacturer which will close its plant later this year.
Mayor John O'Leary says the news for the county had all been positive until the jobs announcement.
"It's a blow for Waterford, despite over the last number of weeks and since I became Mayor of Waterford City and County in June we had some wonderful news here - the turning of the sod on The North Quays, and the the South East Technological University being named as a university.
"That's been all positive news for Waterford, this is a devastating blow and I'm really sorry for all the families affected."
