Many local businesses across Cork used to rely on their local Bank of Ireland branch to access coins.
Due to the closure of many branches across Cork and the country, the local businesses are trying to help each other out.
The Mitchelstown Business Association are trying to encourage shop owners in the area to get on board with the initiative as they say since the Bank of Ireland closures some locals have had no choice but to travel to Fermoy to get coins.
The organisation is encouraging shop owners who are finding it difficult to get their hands on petty cash to get in contact with them.
Some other banks in the area charge for coin service, while others only offer coins to their business customers, meaning a lot of people are left in a tricky situation.
The aim of the group is so local business can swap and exchange coins if they have them.
If you own a business in the Mitchelstown area and you are interested in joining the coin group, contact the Mitchelstown Business Association via their email: [email protected].
