Management at the company planning to develop a Kildare Village-type retail outlet in Carrigtwohill say they intend to have an update on a new planning application by the end of the year.
The development would build 16,000 square metres of floor space for high end fashion companies in Killacloyne.
Developer Rioja Estates had expected the first phase of the project to cost around 100 million euro, create 850 jobs and attracting 220,000 shoppers every year.
They first announced the plan to build the retail outlet in Carrigtwohill in November 2019.
Since then, it has been beset with planning difficulties.
Cork County Council won a case against the Office of the Planning Regulator, in the High Court last November, confirming that they correctly rezoned land for the project in the County Development Plan.
There has been a lot of debate about the proposed retail outlet with concerns about its impact on city centre trade, and traffic congestion in East Cork.
Supporters say the plans will boost the local economy and tourism.
In a statement to RedFM News, the Managing Director of Rioja Estates, Giles Membrey says the company is "working up proposals for a scheme and hope to be in a position to announce more details towards the end of this year’.
