Women's Aid says it isn't surprised by the 8 per cent rise in the number of domestic abuse cases reported to Gardaí.
54 thousand and 47 people have come forward in the past year.
Women's Aid CEO Sarah Benson says they're also seeing more people contacting its service:
"Similarly, we are seeing increased numbers coming forward and we hope that means those who really do need support are reaching out and getting the assistance they need now, rather than suffering in silence"
