Waiting lists and a strong demand for services has led to a Cork based addiction service to seek more funding.
Up to 90 men and 30 women are currently seeking a place in the Coolmine residential service.
Last year Coolmine’s Cork/Kerry division oversaw 1,384 new referrals.
Pauline McKeown from Coolmine told RedFM News that investment is urgently needed in community based supports:
"That’s employment pathways, that’s education pathways, that’s formal aftercare; one-to-one ongoing therapy, because while someone has the treatment and the intensity in the higher support period, when they get back into normal society they need ongoing support in order to sustain their recovery capital long-term."
