It's hoped offshore floating wind turbines will be operating in Ireland by the end of the decade.
The concept allows wind turbines to be constructed on floating devices, which are then anchored to the seabed by cables.
Simply Blue Group, a Cork-based company with plans to build these wind turbines, has recently raised €15 million in funding.
CEO Sam Roch-Perks says there are only three projects of this type operating around the world.
"The UK is the forefront of offshore winds - there are two in Scotland, and two pilot projects.
"There's one off the coast of Portugal too.
"The numbers that are coming through are immense."
