A business group says guaranteed funding for roads projects is essential for economic development including major housing projects.
Cork Chamber has expressed concern at potential delays to ‘critical transport projects’ after the chief executive of Transport Infrastructure Ireland said it needs long-term clarity around funding.
The Irish Examiner reports Peter Walsh has called for a multi-annual funding allocation to avoid delays to projects such as the M20 Cork to Limerick road.
Conor Healy from Cork Chamber told RedFM News the current funding model isn’t working
"I think there's overall commitment to these projects, and they typically receive approval and funding in stage basis, particularly for large infrastructure projects, you need to know your funding position on a multi annual basis so you can plan out for the years ahead. It's not clear what funding will be available over years, one, two, three and so on, that needs to be rectified to give clarity"
