A restaurant owner in the city says customers should be encouraged to take home doggy bags to eliminate food waste.

It’s after the Agriculture Minister said that food served on customers' plates should be cut down.

Charlie McConologue says consumers should not be in a position where they have to ask to take food home from a restaurant with them.

Speaking to RedFM News, owner of Scoozi’s restaurant in the city, Dan O’Brien says doggy bags will actually minimize how much food restaurants throw out

"Give it to them - we would do a ton of food takeaway and everyone is getting takeaway and that is one way to stop the waste. They take away almost everything and eat it and it's brilliant for us, which means we don't have to throw it out - but that's what they should promote"
