Cork County Council is set to continue it's Ironman partnership
Question marks were raised around the future of the event after two competitors died when they got into difficulties during the swim section of Ironman in Youghal in August.
It's now emerged that Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey has issued a statement to councillors outlining how the local authority will continue with their agreement as host sponsor to Ironman after considering accounts of what happened with Ironman and Triathlon Ireland.
The statement adds that Ironman has sole responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the event including running it with due care, skill and attention.
A coroners investigation with the assistance of the Gardaí is ongoing after 45 year old Brendan Wall and 64 year-old Ivan Chittenden lost their lives in the event in August.
