Cork has recorded a slight drop in homeless numbers while nationally the number of people who are homeless is continuing to rise.

The latest figures show 14,486 people needed emergency accommodation in August - a rise of 57 on July's numbers

Cork recorded 547 homeless people a slight drop on the previous month's figures

The Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien says he hopes the figures will come down soon

"If we can continue the upward production of homes and the trajectory that we're on to deliver more new social homes again this year, think that is really going to help us in actually levelling off the numbers of people who are in emergency accommodation, then starting to see a decrease. I can't give you a month, I can't give you a date"
