A Cork mother is urging parents of children with cancer to join a new trial.

The MAGIC-I study is Ireland's first clinical examination of genomics approaches in paediatric cancer care.

The study involving children and teens has been described by the HSE as a significant milestone in cancer treatment.

Noreen Doyle from Kanturk's two children survived leukaemia because of their involvement in cancer trials.

Speaking to RedFM News, Noreen says the trial her son James was involved in helped improved treatment for his sister Kate 10 years later:

"In those 10 years, medicine had come on so well, it was fantastic news after the grief of finding out leukaemia had affected our family a second time. And that was really down to the clinical trial we had signed our son into when he was sick. That's how it works, the learnings that come from the trials, it's making it more sucessful for the teams to cure the children of their cancer."
