The local economy in Cork is reeling from the news that Ireland will not be hosting the America's Cup.
The government had been due to make a decision on the race this week but asked organisers for more time to to allow them to carry out a detailed cost benefit analysis.
It's reported ministers want to take an extra six months to consider the bid, which it's estimated will cost around 150 million euro.
It's now expected that either Spain or Saudi Arabia will be chosen to host the prestigious race.
Speaking to RedFM News, Eddie English from Sail Cork says the race would have been a huge boost for Cork and the entire country.
"It would have been an amazing opportunity.
"We're very lucky with the sailing waters that we have, and it certainly would put Ireland on the map in terms of sport - they say it's the third biggest sporting event in the world, after the Olympics and the World Cup.
"I was lucky enough to be at an America's Cup in Fremantle in Australia in the late 1980s when my brother was involved, and I have to say it changed the whole area."
