A Cork school principal has added his voice to calls on Bus Eireann to provide school transport for 30 students in Ballinhassig

Fergal McCarthy principal of Kinsale Community School has stepped in to support the pupils, some of who are already attending the school, and want to return this September

The pupils are all from the same catchment area but Bus Eireann says the students should consider schools that are geographically closer to them such as Carrigaline or Rochestown

There are no school buses travelling to either of those schools from Ballinhassig and locals say the logical solution is put on another bus to accommodate the students

Speaking to RedFM News KCS principal Fergal McCarthy says it's not just incoming first year students who are affected:

"These students run all the way up to Leaving Cert. So they've been given a ticket in the past, because there's a greater pressure on the system. The concessionary tickets that were issued previously, are now being withdrawn. And my point is, you cannot do that to people. If you've made a commitment to provide school transport to a child in first year, you must honor that commitment up until their Leaving Cert."
