Cork Simon says rent prices in the city and county are shocking but not surprising.

New figures from the Residential Tenancies Board show new tenants in Cork County are paying around €216 more than existing tenants.

Meanwhile, the average rent for a new tenancy in the city is now close to €1,500.

Speaking to RedFM News, Paul Sheehan from Cork Simon says the new figures are making tenants insecure:

"Existing tenants are hard pressed to may their monthly rent, obviously there's a level of insecurity there that could lose their insecurity at any time, and then to turn around and find a new tenancy. People can't afford to pay there existing tenancy and trying to afford a new tenancy, it's just crazy."
