A Cork woman, whose infant son died in a road crash and had his organs donated to two people, says just 75 people have donated their organs so far this year.
Deborah Burn’s son Harvey died in County Cork in 2006 and would have been 18-years-old last Sunday.
His family raised over €30,000 for the Irish Kidney Association and Strange Boat donor foundation at a recent fundraiser to celebrate his birthday.
Harvey's liver was donated to a 17-month-old girl who recently got her Leaving Cert results, while a man received his kidneys
Speaking to RedFM News Deborah says people need to talk to their family about their wishes:
"There isn't enough people in Ireland donating their organs, 500 people on a list and 75 this year is what they're at already. They're hoping to bring it up to 100 in a year but it's very little people that are donating and I suppose, unless you talk to your loved ones at home and tell them your wishes, it isn't enough just to have your donor card."
