The 14-year-old boy who died while swimming with friends in Passage West has been named as Jack O’Sullivan.
It’s believed he was swimming with his friends when he got separated from the group.
A full interagency search of the water got underway after the alarm was raised at around 2pm yesterday. The operation involved Coast Guard rescue helicopter 117 Crosshaven Coast Guard, the County Fire Service, Gardai, the national ambulance service, the Irish naval service and Mallow search and rescue divers.
The body of the Coláiste Éamann Rís student was located following an extensive search and was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem will be carried out.
Crosshaven Coast Guard say the thoughts go to the young man's family and friends at this difficult time.
