Fota Wildlife Park is on track to remain one of the most popular attractions in Cork, with management expecting around 450,000 people to visit this year.
Last year was the busiest year on record at the park, with over 475,000 visitors and staycationers.
Up to 170,000 people are expected to pass through the park during July and August, a decrease compared to the 230,000 people who visited during the same time last year, however management say they are happy with the figures given the increase in international travel.
Speaking to RedFM News, Director of the Wildlife Park Sean McKeown says the overcast weather is pushing visitor numbers up:
"It's getting better, and obviously weather like this really suits us, when it's dull and warm people will come here. We're hoping for the next six to eight weeks to be very busy. We'd typically have in July and August 160 or 170,000. Last year, because of staycations, we had about 230,000. If we make that figure I'd be delighted, but I don't think so. I think there's a lot of people obviously leaving the country and going for sun holidays."
