31,963 people were admitted to hospital in Cork last year due to alcohol and drug misuse.
That's according to HSE figures released to Cork's RedFM through a Freedom of Information request.
They show that there was an increase of more that 850 admissions on 2020.
The figures come as the University of Washington's School of Medicine published a study yesterday which says younger adults should steer clear of alcohol - as it is of NO benefit.
The research suggests drinking more than a small shot glass of beer a day, or two tablespoons' worth of wine - could pose health risks for those under the age of 40.
In the first four months of this year alone, there has already been nearly 12,000 alcohol and drug misuse-related admissions in Cork.
