A 32-year-old man has been arrested for questioning about a hit and run in West Cork two days ago.
The incident near Innishannon left a 65-year-old man, who is well known in Cork sporting and broadcasting circles, in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital.
"The collision happened at Dunkereen Cross near Innishannon at around quarter to ten on Thursday Morning, the 29th December.
The injured man, the well-known sports broadcaster, Paudie Palmer, was driving through the crossroads, when his car was hit from the side by another car - and pushed on to an embankment, before turning on its side.
He sustained serious injuries.
A local, off-duty, nurse came upon the scene and contacted a local doctor.
They treated him before he was rushed by ambulance to CUH.
It's understood the injured man, remains in a critical condition following emergency medical treatment.
His niece, model and wife of former Irish International footballer Robbie Keane, Claudine Keane has said prayers are needed for her "lovely talented charismatic uncle".
Gardaí from Bandon began checking CCTV footage in the area and traced a car they suspected was involved in the crash to a house in Ballinhassig, where they arrested a 32-year-old man.
The man was arrested for questioning and is being detained at Bandon Garda Station where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
