A 41-year-old man who is accused of violently resisting and obstructing a search of his house resulting in a Garda suffering a fractured leg has been remanded in custody for a week.

Zydrunas Rudikovas of Hawthorn Mews, Dublin Hill, Cork is also alleged to have swallowed wraps of heroin on the day of the incident.

Detective Garda Patrick O’Sullivan said Gardaí executed a search warrant at a house in an operation targeting the sale and supply of heroin last Saturday.

He said the accused pushed past a Garda and caused them serious injury during a struggle on the ground.

Officers found heroin and cash during a search of the property.

In response to a question from defence solicitor Eddie Burke, Det O’Sullivan told the court analysis of the heroin has been fast tracked due to several recent overdoses in the city, but said he was not linking those overdoses with the case before the court.

Judge Mary Dorgan refused bail due to the seriousness of the charges and remanded the accused in custody to appear before the court again via video link on the 29th.
