44 year old Cork man pleads guilty to two counts of the attempted sexual exploitation of a teenage girl

A man in his 40's has pleaded guilty after he was charged with two counts of the attempted sexual exploitation of a teenage girl three years ago

Tim Bowen of Cottage View in Monkstown, appeared before Cork District Court earlier in connection with the charges.

The first charge is that between July 4th and July 26th 2019 Tim Bowen attempted to contact a 14 year old girl for the purpose of facilitating the sexual exploitation of that child.

The second charge is that at Costa Coffee café in Bishopstown on July 26th that he attempted to intentionally meet the child for the purpose of doing something that constituted sexual exploitation of the child, namely sexual assault.

Sergeant John Kelleher previously told the court that the DPP had directed trial by indictment on the charges. Alternatively, he indicated that 44 year old Tim Bowen could enter a plea of guilty at district court level with sentencing following in Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

At the District Court today defence solicitor, Eddie Burke, said that his client was signing pleas of guilty on both counts and will be sent forward for sentencing in the circuit court.

Judge Olann Kelleher granted bail to Tim Bowen and adjourned the case until April 25th next at Cork Circuit Court.

Certain bail conditions have been laid down in the interim including that Bowen sign on twice a week at Togher garda station, he must also surrender his passport, notify gardaí of any change of address and be contactable to gardai by mobile phone on a twenty four seven basis.

Free legal aid was granted in the case.
