According to the agency's latest figures, that makes up 42 per cent of all retrospective abuse cases.
The highest number is in Cork, where 85 people are waiting for a social worker.
Suzanne Connolly, from children's charity Barnardos, says the figures are very concerning.
"We're really quite worried about the fact that adults are waiting for a social worker in order to have their allegations in relation to abuse as a child listened to, heard and validated. It takes a lot of courage to come forward to talk about childhood abuse and when you do come forward, you want to have a service promptly. To have to be on a long waiting list of causes untold stress and suffering."
