A Cork Fianna Fáil TD has called for VAT on suncream to be cut in the budget.

Christopher O'Sullivan says he would support the move to make SPF products cheaper to encourage more people to wear suncream to curb rising skin cancer rates.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland - and Deputy O'Sullivan also wants to see tanning beds banned.

He says other measures like free suncream in public areas could help tackle the issue

"Getting people into the habit of using sun cream, those public dispensers could be a game changer, and certainly reduce, or getting rid of the VAT and making it more affordable.mean, it's,  an essential health product. you have to look at it like that"
