Sr Kate McCarthy from Drimoleague worked as a nurse in France during the First World War and returned to the country at the outbreak of the war to set up one of the first resistance groups in France.
Sr Kate was awarded for her actions by the French and British, and spent the rest of her life working at the Honan Home in the city until her death in 1971.
